Pray for Repentance
Dr. Diane with an important message for our prayer time. October 3, 2009
It’s four thirty Sunday morning and a thought that’s been lingering in my mind for many days has now driven me to get up and put it down into words. It is about repentance. As I have been praying night after night for family, friends, people, the peace of Jerusalem, the current affairs in the Middle East, in our nations, in the world, the Lord has been showing me that, unlike the famous song “what the world needs now is love sweet love”, what the world needs now is repentance. We pray for the salvation of those we know, those close to us, or distant, but really what we ought to pray for is that they would repent of their sin… then salvation will come to them. What was John the Baptist’s message? “Repent.” And the Lord’s message. And the disciples’ as well. Here are but a few of the scripture verses from the Word of God: "And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 3:2 "Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance" Matthew 3:8 "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance." Matthew 3:11 "John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins." Mark 1:4 "And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel." Mark 1:15 "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Mark 2:17 "And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins" Luke 3:3 "Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father" Luke 3:8 "John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins." Mark 1:4 "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel." Mark 1:15 "From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 4:17 "But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Matthew 9:13 "Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not" Matthew 11:20 "When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” Mark 2:17 "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Luke 5:32 "The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here." Luke 11:32 "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." Luke 13:3 "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent." Revelation 3:19 "And they went out, and preached that men should repent." Mark 6:12 "and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." Luke 24:47 "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Acts 2:38 "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out" Acts 3:19 "Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins." Acts 5:31 "Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee." Acts 8:22 "after John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel." Acts 13:24 "Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent" Acts 17:30 "When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.” Acts 11:18 So what is repentance? What does it mean to repent? It means to turn around. To turn away from our present life without God. It means to turn away from our sinful ways. It means to turn around and toward God. Let us pray that God would grant upon all our loved ones and others in need of salvation the will to repent so they may be saved. Let us preach not a Gospel of love and fuzziness but a Gospel of repentance which leads unto Salvation. Yes God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son… (John 3:16), but man must repent in order to believe and receive that love. Blessings, Dr.Diane
