Overcoming the world...
Dr. Diane with an encouraging word... August 17, 2009
I have a note stuck on my computer that says “Improvise, Adapt, Overcome”. It is a quote I picked up from somewhere written by “The Marines”. That’s all I know of its origin, but it has been a great source of inspiration and motivation to me in business.I was looking at it the other day from a different perspective. In business, to improvise means to anticipate, to foresee, to be ready to make, provide or do with the tools and materials at hand; to fill an unforeseen and immediate need. In music, it means to simultaneously compose and perform on the spur of the moment. Adapt means to make suitable, to fit, to remodel to suit a need or situation. Overcome means to conquer, to subdue, to surmount, to defeat, to gain superiority or mastery. This quality to be able to improvise, adapt and overcome in business today is greatly necessary. It used to be that businesses were run at 80/20 normal to crisis operation. Now, with the scaled down staff and increase of work and complexities, it is the other way around. Managers must be ready at all times to meet the unexpected. How does this apply in theology? As Christians, we are faced daily with situations that require us to “Improvise, Adapt, Overcome” when impatience, discouragement, temptations of all kinds stare us in the face. We need to foresee to be ready to remodel and conquer at any and all times. Our Lord reminds us, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.” (Revelation 2:7) Do make a search in your Bible on the word “overcome”. You will be encouraged. 'Till next time, Blessings, Dr Diane
P.S.: Don't forget to pray for the peace of Jerusalem:From Joel Rosenberg's latest Flash newsletter: "In Psalm 122:6, the Lord commands us to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" and we certainly need to do that now more than ever. I would encourage you to gather your family, entire church congregations, small group Bible studies, home fellowship groups, schools, and other organizations to set aside time this week to pray and fast for the Lord to bring true peace to Israel and her neighbors. The situation really is growing more urgent by the day." For current events on the rumblings of the Middle East Check Joel Rosenberg's blog here For the latest news on Israel:click here>
