The Gospel of Mark
The Gospel of Mark is one of the four gospels in the New Testament of the Bible. It is the second in order in the Bible after Matthew. The gospel of Mark is one of the 3 synoptic gospels that present the life of Jesus from a human aspect point of view. Mark, from his Roman point-of-view, presents Jesus as the Conqueror, a man of action who triumphs over Satan and sin; We hear of Mark for the first time in the book of Acts where many, the Bible tells us, were gathered praying (Acts 12:12) "And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying." Mark is referred to in several of the books of the New Testament as "John Mark".. His mother was named Mary (although not Mary the mother of Jesus) and he was a nephew of Barnabas who travelled with St.Paul. As a write, Mark was short and to the point, in the style of a reporter. In the gospel according to Mark, the audience points to being the powerful, worldly and military of the Roman State -- much as we would write to reach the politicians and heads of states in our world today. A direct comparison of Mark's writing to the other synoptic writers can be found in the book Horizontal Chronology of the Gospels For More reading:
