Seeing the face of God this Christmas

Dr. Diane on an important message this Christmas ...

December 2008

Has anyone seen God?

I was struck yet with another awsome revelation this Christmas.

Every year at Christmas time, many Christians feel bored by "another reading" of the Christmas story from the Bible.

It seems that many do not see new revelations from the living Word of God.

Even in the perennial sacred songs of the Season, we hear the message of Christmas but get so used to them that we miss the depth of the meaning of the lyrics.

I was listening to the song on the radio "Mary did you know".

In the song, it speaks of Mary in the manger kissing the baby's face.

These words struck me anew this year and I began to think upon them further. Imaginge yourself being there at that time when Jesus was born.

You were a visitor to the area where Jesus was -- either that very night of His birth near the inn with the "no vacancy" sign, or later on at the home of Mary and Joseph when the family had moved back. You lifted up the baby in your arms, looked at Him and kissed Him on the cheek.

You would have kissed the face of God !

Think about that. Not only would you have seen God but you would have kissed His face.

The Bible says that no-one has seen God. Except Jesus.

And we have seen Jesus. Well, at least those of us who lived some two thousand years ago during that time when God visited the earth. And many have since had visions and dreams of Jesus.

Jesus said "You've seen me, you've seen the Father." God revealed Himself through His Son Jesus Christ.

Another scripture that strucked me during this Season, is John 3:16, where it says that God sent "His only begotten Son".

We don't normally associate John 3:16 with Christmas, however, the "only begotten Son" refers to His birth. God could not have given His son if His son had not come here.

God gave His Son who was His only begotten, when He was born here on earth for the purpose of dying in our place, because the wages of sin is death.

But instead of us receiving the death penalty, God sent His son and gave His son a ransom for sin.

That's what Christmas is about -- it's always about God and His Son Jesus who came to save the world, one person at a time.

Give yourself the best Christmas gift this year -- receive the gift of Salvation from God and His Son Jesus Christ by His Holy Spirit.
