Improve Your Daily Devotions Today

By Dr. Diane M. Hoffmann

Do you sometimes wish that God would speak to you with a thundering voice or shattering vision like He did to the patriarchs and prophets of old?

Do you know that we, in this generation, are much more privileged than our forefathers? Anytime we want, we can make God speak to us! All we need to do is pick up our Bible and read it. IMAGINE!

We can hear from the Creator anytime we want! But... we are not going to hear much from God if we scantly read at random while falling asleep in bed or while gulping our instant breakfast or watching TV!

Here's a promise of prosperity and success in the Word of God:

"This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth: but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, then you shall have good success". (Joshua 1:8).

Over the last few years, I designed and perfected a devotional system that I have used daily to reap great results. In this article I want to share with you to tips to help you improve your daily devotions.

Firstly, to hear from God you have to give Him a chance to speak to you.

Secondly, you need to pattern your daily devotions according to what works best for you and your life style in order to spend the time without interruption. At least one hour. If you don't have an hour, well, half an hour is still better than nothing. May be you can do two hours on Sunday for instance.

Thirdly, begin reading a chapter in the Book of Psalms in your Bible. Use some of the scriptures that really speak to you to pray to God right there and then. Continue reading as you meditate on the passage. Then turn to a book chapter in the Old Testament, then another in the New Testament as the Spirit leads you.

Fourthly, get a writing pad and write down some of the things that come to your mind as you meditate and hear from God. Sometimes we don't understand certain things in the Bible or some things that come to our mind as we meditate on the Word of God.

Write these down as questions to God and He will answer in due time as you do your devotions day by day, week by week, month by month. As you get answers, mark them where you had questioned or noted the subject matter.

By following this simple and very personal method of reading and studying, you will be amazed to see how God uses both the Old and the New testaments to work all things together in your life as a believer.

You will begin to be very exciting about meeting God every day, especially when you have accumulated several weeks and months of writings and thoughts. As you look back, you will see how God has been able to work in your life in multiplied abundance.
